Cowboy Poetry

Bright moon
Hangs low in the sky
Stars are bright
like the light in my eyes

Whiskey soaked memories
Cling to crisp fall air
Painfully reminders
of the ones who no longer care

Every day in the mirror
Looking more like me
If you never knew me
It's a stranger you see

I look to the future
But the past still has teeth
See I've always been this cowboy
On this long journey

One day I hope this trail
Will put you in my path
But for now it's best I leave you
As a love that didn't last
